Mike Tyson makes ring walk for his first fight in 19 years

Jake Paul battled past a 58-year-old Mike Tyson to clinch a points victory in one of the most controversial fights of all time.

Tyson took on YouTuber Paul, 27, live on Netflix in the former heavyweight champion’s first professional bout in 19 years, but immediately appeared to be a shadow of himself.

Paul, without ever needing to exert himself, eased to victory while boxing on the outside of the ring in front of 70,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Tyson conceded he had an injury entering the bout but refused to make it an excuse for his performance, with Paul hinting that he was reluctant to commit to his combinations through fear: “I was trying to hurt him a little bit. But I was scared, he was trying to hurt me too.”

In the evening’s co-main event, there was controversy and plenty of action as Katie Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano in their rematch in what developed into another classic. The Puerto Rican’s gruesome cut following a headbutt from the Irishwoman led to cries of outrage afterward, with the losing camp accusing the champion of dirty tactics - follow the latest reaction and relive all the results from Arlington below:

Jake Paul makes controversial admission after beating Mike Tyson

Jake Paul seemingly admitted he was only trying to “hurt” Mike Tyson “a little bit” in their controversial fight, which the YouTuber won on points.

Paul, 27, beat Tyson, 58, after eight two-minute rounds, with the scorecards reading 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 in his favour. The bout was Tyson’s first professional contest since the heavyweight legend retired in 2005, though he did box Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition in 2020.

During Friday’s fight, which took place at AT&T Stadium in Texas and streamed live on Netflix, Paul was accused of holding back against Tyson – or ‘pulling’ his punches.

Mike Tyson refuses to retire after Jake Paul loss and calls out next opponent

The former heavyweight world champion dropped a unanimous decision over eight rounds and was a shadow of himself, landing just 18 punches according to Compubox.

Yet Tyson, despite an underwhelming performance, insists he could return to the ring and even floated a bout against Paul’s brother Logan Paul, who fought Floyd Mayweather Jr last year.

Paul vs Tyson LIVE: Latest reaction to controversial fight in Texas

Nico Ali Walsh: “Jake Paul is an embarrassment to this sport. If my grandfather was still around, he’d call him out. Absolutely no shame... Love you Mike.”

Former NFL star Robert Griffin III: “Jake Paul is carrying Mike Tyson through this fight. He saw he hurt Mike with the three jabs in a row in the second round and pulled all the way off the gas. He could have ended it there and in every round since. Smart business move by Jake Paul. Gives all his sponsors more air time.”

Eddie Hearn: ‘It was horrible to watch'

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed he was no fan of the Paul vs Tyson fight.

“I didn’t really watch it, I was in Katie Taylor’s changing room. I watched the first 30 seconds which were quite entertaining,” he said according to TalkSport’s Michael Benson.

“After that it was horrible to watch. It was hard to watch and it was always going to be like that… Mike came out like a raging bull, but after that he was gassed. Mike’s a legend and he showed a load of heart, but you just don’t need to see it.”

Andre Ward gives verdict on Paul v Tyson

"It was what it was, I'm not shocked, Mike is an all-time great at selling a fight and making you believe. I'm not disappointed, but it's a 58-year-old man, in that kind of shape, it's a win in itself.

“You can't teleport back in time, I hope you're not too disappointed, I'm relieved Mike didn't get caught with something.

“But it's time for Jake to fight somebody a lot younger than Mike and more accomplished, then he'll get legitimacy."

Paul v Tyson: Amanda Serrano breaks record in defeat to Katie Taylor

Despite a disappointing main event, let’s not forget an epic co-main event between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

A close fight, and no robbery, but Serrano may feel hard done by for a while.
