Sir: Reading today's report by Tim Kelsey and Chris Blackhurst ('Nadir tried to buy a knighthood'), I was intrigued to note that a 'large sum' was pledged to the Royal Society of Arts.
The RSA ran an appeal in 1988/89 which raised a total of pounds 3m. We were most grateful for Polly Peck's pounds 500 contribution - one among several hundred corporate and several thousand individual donations we received - but that comes nowhere near the figures that are implied by your report.
Yours sincerely,
CHRISTOPHER LUCAS
Director
