HP has been showing off its slate device, flaunting its ability to take photos, record videos, download media off an SD card and connect to USB devices.

You might have already seen glimpses of HP's slate floating around the web during the Consumer Electronics Show in January this year in the hands of Steve Ballmer, or in videos posted by HP.

On April 5 - in the wake of Apple's massive weekend iPad launch - HP released yet another video on their YouTube page and HP Slate blog showing the tablet's front- and back-facing video-capable cameras, a USB port, support for Adobe Flash and a slot for a SD card reader (all of which are features the iPad is lacking).

Technology blog Engadget also posted 'official looking' HP Slate presentation documents detailing the tablet's specifications and pricing details. The documents claim the base model of the tablet will be sold for $549.

Engadget says the tablet has a "8.9-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive multitouch display, a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor with UMA graphics and an accelerator for 1080p video playback (we're assuming it's a Broadcom Crystal HD chip), 32GB of flash storage and 1GB of non-upgradeable RAM."

According to the HP presentation there will also be a higher priced model that will cost $599 and come with 64GB of flash storage. Battery life is said to be around 5 hours on both versions.

Spanish technology blog Clipset.net previously reported that the tablet would be launched in June and would be priced at approximately €400.
