First gameplay footage of 'Battlefield 3' on console

Previously shown off in its PC format, Battlefield 3 made its public debut on console as excitable talk-show host Jimmy Fallon got to grips with what he called "a super-fun game."

Due to come out on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 25 (October 28 outside of North America), it was actually the PlayStation 3 version that was given a run out on the evening of Thursday, June 16.

Only the week before, the CEO at Call of Duty's publisher had goaded Electronic Arts over their preference for showing super-powered PC footage.

"So far I've only seen Battlefield 3 on a PC, I haven't seen it on a console where the bulk of our business is," said Bobby Kotick. "If it's just a PC title, as it looks like today, that's just a small audience."

Speaking on The Jimmy Fallon Show, game developer Johan Döhl talked up his game's selling points. " Battlefield's always been about all-out warfare. There's tons of vehicles - we have the tanks, the helicopters, the jets."

"Now the thing about this game is that you can blow up... you can just shoot through walls and it's almost like real war," responded Fallon. "Can you just hide?"

"Yes, you can hide behind some cover, but that's not the name of the game," explained EA's Kevin O'Leary, "this isn't Hidelfield 3."

The three played through the same section featured in Battlefield 3's first full trailer, Fault Line: Episode 1, which can be seen from 1:30 onward at youtube.com/watch?v=ekDutunw1mk.
