Cassie Jackman, the former world junior champion, suffered a shock defeat at the British National Champonships at Welwyn Garden City when she was beaten in the quarter-finals by the seventh-seeded Jane Martin, writes James Leigh. Jackman, the English national champion and world No 5, led 4-1 in the final game but her game fell apart and she went down 9-6, 9-10, 10-9, 6-9, 9-5. Peter Marshall, the men's world No 5, needed one hour and 14 minutes before reaching the semi-final with a 9-2, 10-8, 9-6 win over Stephen Meads.
