Frankie Dettori remains eight wins ahead of Kieren Fallon in the jockeys' championship race after the Irishman failed to take advantage of the Italian's absence from the saddle yesterday.

Frankie Dettori remains eight wins ahead of Kieren Fallon in the jockeys' championship race after the Irishman failed to take advantage of the Italian's absence from the saddle yesterday.

Fallon drew a blank from four rides at Catterick and Dettori, who took the day off to promote his autobiography, still leads 171 to 163.

Seb Sanders is nine behind Fallon in third place after having one winner, Dont Call Me Derek (4-1), from five mounts at the North Yorkshire venue. Dettori is 2-5 with both Ladbrokes and William Hill to claim his third championship and his first since 1995. Fallon, the six-time winner, is 7-4 and Sanders 33-1.

All three contenders are in action at today's sole Flat meeting on the all-weather at Lingfield - Dettori having six rides, Sanders five rides and Fallon four.

Officials at Salisbury are to hold an inspection at 8am tomorrow ahead of Friday's meeting.
