Rosendo Alvarez, of Nicaragua, defeated Chana Por Pao-In, of Thailand, on a split decision to win the World Association Minimumweight Championship yesterday. It was the 20th win for the 25-year-old Nicaraguan, who also has 13 knock-outs and is the mini-flyweight champion of Latin America. The fight, Chana's first defeat in 29 contests, was his 10th defence of the title he won from Hideyuki Ohachi of Japan in Tokyo in 1993.
