PARIS (Reuter) - A leader of Algeria's banned Muslim fundamentalist party said yesterday the military were behind the assassination of President Mohamed Boudiaf in June.

Rabah Kebir, the former head of the political and external affairs wing of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), told the French newspaper Le Monde he believed the military leaders who brought Boudiaf to power got rid of him 'because they feared they would lose the riches they accumulated illegally over the years'.
