US investigators said last night that they may have foiled an attempt to blow up the highest skyscraper in the United States – the Sears Tower in Chicago – thanks to a series of arrests after the terror attacks on New York and Washington.
The US television network ABC reported that among the belongings of five people taken into custody – three in Detroit, one in Chicago and one in Iowa – were drawings and information on computer disks relating to the 110-storey skyscraper.
ABC, which quoted law enforcement sources, said the men had not yet been charged with involvement in any terrorist act and it was not clear when the possible truck bomb attack on the Sears Tower may have been planned for.
