The interview with the serial killer Dennis Nilsen contains 'prurient detail' of his crimes without analytical background and should not be broadcast on television, it was claimed in the High Court yesterday by Michael Silverleaf, counsel for the Home Office, which wants the interview banned.

The judge will today rule whether the Home Office is allowed an injunction banning the interview pending full hearing of the action, accepted by both sides as necessary to settle the case. The programme, Murder in Mind, is scheduled for broadcast at 10.40pm tonight. Central Television wants to screen the four-minute interview in a documentary on offender profiling. Nilsen, a former civil servant, is serving life for six murders and claimed to have committed 15 or 16.
