If you've ever wondered what a watermelon exploding in slow motion looks like, then wonder no more. YouTube favourites Gavin Free and Dan Gruchy, otherwise known as The Slow Mo Guys, have made a video showing just what happens when you blow up a watermelon.

In an act that can only be described as schoolboy curiosity, the pair were originally planning on filming a pig's eye exploding in slow motion. Luckily for us their plans were scuppered when the explosion proved to be utterly underwhelming, so instead they blew up a watermelon using a firework.

The spattered fragments covered Dan, one half of the duo, who was bravely (or foolishly) sitting next to the fruit as it disintegrated.

The exploding watermelon video has gone viral, garnering over 1 million views and counting since it was uploaded to YouTube on 21 January.

The British pair have over 3 million subscribers to their YouTube channel and last year produced an incredible slow motion video of a water balloon fight involving 1,500 people.

The Slow Mo Guys shoot all their videos using a high-speed cinema camera that takes 2,500 frames per second, the footage is then edited and uploaded.
