Chris Brown to spend at least another week behind bars
Singer to spend 25th birthday in prison after being held since mid-March as a result of being thrown out of court ordered anger management relating to assault of Rihanna
Chris Brown is to remain in jail for at least another week, a judge in Los Angeles has ordered, as the singer battles two cases against him on opposite sides of the US.
The star, who has been held since 14 March after violating the terms of his probation, will spend his 25th birthday behind bars.
Brown was put in prison after he was thrown out of a rehabilitation center, which a court ordered him to attend for anger management treatment following his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge James Brandlin said Brown would remain imprisoned unless the prosecutor and Brown's lawyer could agree a resolution on the terms of his probation by a scheduled hearing on 9 May.
Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, said if the case could not be resolved with prosecutor, Mary Murray, by next week, he will ask the court to release Brown on certain terms and conditions.
Geragos' past requests to have Brown placed under house arrest instead of jail have so far been denied.
The singer also faces a misdemeanor assault trial in Washington, DC, after he allegedly punched and broke the nose of a man who was trying to get a picture with him last year.
The Washington trial, which could complicate matters in Brown's probation case in Los Angeles, has been delayed so his defence could arrange testimony of Brown's bodyguard, who was convicted last month of misdemeanor assault in the same case.
