LOYALIST Volunteer Force prisoners in the Maze Prison have gone on hunger strike in protest at a security clampdown.

The protest came on the eve of an inspection by Sir David Ramsbotham, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons.

Four prisoners in H-Block six began refusing food this weekend in protest at being shut in their cells following the murder of fellow LVF inmate David Keys, a Northern Ireland security source said. Keys was the second prisoner to be killed inside the Maze since Christmas.
