Coronavirus: Gogglebox won’t stop filming as home camera rigs are set up for its stars

Popular Channel 4 reality series Gogglebox will not stop filming because of the coronavirus pandemic.

While TV series and film projects have abandoned production all over the world as a result of the virus, Gogglebox, which focuses on sofa-based TV punditry from ordinary people, is a rare outlier.

Because cameras are rigged in the living rooms of the show’s stars, filming can go ahead without the use of additional crew members.

Channel 4 told Digital Spy that the arrangement allowed the stars “to take part without any contact from crew”.

Ian Katz, the Director of Programming, said: ”The coronavirus outbreak is an enormous creative challenge for all broadcasters and though it is having a profound impact on getting some of our productions onto screen, it’s also a time when public service broadcasters like Channel 4 can step up and help people navigate through the extraordinary challenges we all now face.”

Of course, with so many other programmes being cancelled or stripped back because of the pandemic, it could become tricky finding content for the Gogglebox cast to watch on the show, which is currently midway through its 15th series.
