Equipment was smuggled into a new maximum security jail to enable six prisoners to break out, Woolwich Crown Court, south-east London, was told yesterday. They cut through two fences and climbed two walls to escape from Whitemoor jail, Cambridgeshire. All were recaptured with the help of a heat-seeking helicopter.
Liam Magee, 48; Liam McCotter, 33; Daniel McNamee, 36; Laim O'Duibhir, 34; Peter Sherry, 31; and Andrew Russell, 34, deny escaping and possessing two guns with intent to endanger life. The hearing continues.
