These naturally occurring hot springs are a consequence of volcanic activity deep beneath the ground of the north Atlantic island. Iceland was uninhabited before the 9th century and the native language, Norraena (or Northern tongue), has changed little since. Blur's Damon Albarn owns a share in a pub in the capital Reykjavik.
