n 9 Oct: Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes, by the Welsh National Opera at the Grand Theatre, Swansea.

n 23 May to 3 Jun: Urdd National Eisteddfod, Penrhyn, Conway, Colwyn Bay, North Wales. Very much for Welsh speakers or students of Welsh. Poetry and music competitions: winners go on to National in August.

n 23-25 Jun: The Glastonbury Festival, costs around pounds 80 for three-days of camping, with or without mud. Bands yet to be announced.

n 4-9 Jul: Llangollen International (music) Eisteddfod, North Wales.

n Jul: Ashton Court Festival, Bristol, the annual showcase for local bands. In the past has included the likes of Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky. Bands yet to be announced.

n 5-12 Aug: National (main) Eisteddford, Llanelli, near Swansea. Celebration of Welsh culture, very much for Welsh speakers and students.
