Home Computer: The Macintosh, dummy]
Thursday 13 May 1993 23:02 BST
Most manuals begin with what you can do with what is on the screen. A manual that begins 'Chapter 1: How to switch on your Mac' is a welcome acknowledgement of the real world for the unitiated. David Pogue's Macs for Dummies is part of a series that thinks in terms of 'what you hope to see' and 'what you might see' when trying to take new users through the system.
It is American - as is most computer literature - but apart from it being irksome to set the machine on California time on a wet cold British day, that presents no real communication problems.
At pounds 15.45 it could be a cheaper way to get your new system up and running rather having to make regular calls to the Apple Help Line.
