Computers: Feedback: California dreaming
MORE NEWS on Netmanage Chameleon, the Internet connectivity package for Windows. When I first got hold of it, what struck me was how beautiful and elegant it seemed. Now what I notice is that it does not work. The greatest problem is with E-mail: almost every time I receive a message on it, the mail program crashes, losing the message.
Imagine if someone sold a mailbox that exploded every time you pushed a letter through the flap - well, not every time; I have managed to receive four letters safely in a week of trying.
Netmanage Chameleon is a bit like that, except that its list price is pounds 395 (excluding VAT). Isn't the computer industry wonderful?
No doubt there will be some simple solution to this problem, known to the support staff at Netmanage. But since they do not answer E-mail - and since I do not feel like ringing California - it is difficult to know what to do.
