The UK experienced its warmest spring on record and its driest in over 50 years, with an average temperature of 9.5C, 1.4C above the long-term average, according to provisional Met Office figures.
Eight of the ten warmest UK springs have occurred since 2000, with the three warmest all occurring since 2017.
The Met Office's three-month outlook indicates a hot summer is 2.3 times more likely than normal, although this doesn't guarantee continuous heatwaves.
Average temperatures in the UK during meteorological summer (June-August) range from 10-17C, with the southeast of England experiencing higher averages of 16-17C.
