First Call
BY THE age of 17, Jonny Lang had sold more than a million copies in the States of his debut album, Lie To Me. That was little more than a year ago, and Lang's fast- rising fame has shown little sign of flagging with a series of headline shows and support gigs with The Rolling Stones, B B King and Aerosmith. This tour coincides with the release of his second album, Wander This World, which is a mish-mash of blues, R&B, rock and ballads.

Last Call
THE TED HUGHES production of Jean Racine's Phedre opened earlier this month to great acclaim, with Diana Rigg (right) playing the eponymous heroine, ably supported by Julian Glover and Toby Stephens. The story concerns Phedre's passion for her stepson and the tragedy unleashed after she confesses her desires on the mistaken assumption that her husband is dead. Racine is said to have written it to prove that "a good poet could get the greatest crimes excused and even inspire compassion for the criminals".
